2010 Recap...

Hello, everyone:

Here’s a quick recap of 2010.  I’ve not kept notes on every single event, only those few that shook my awareness.  Here are the headlines that took my attention away from what matters…

February:
-         Joe Stack few a plane into an IRS building
-         The McStays family (parents and two young children) disappeared into Mexico, leaving   behind passports, birth certificates, a business and their eldest so.
-         Terry Hoskins bulldozed his home before it could be foreclosed on
March:
-         John Patrick Bedell was killed while firing his weapon at the Pentagon
-         Students protested tuition hikes in California (Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles)
-         “Jihad-Jane,” a Pennsylvanian woman, was charged with terrorism violations including an agreement to carry out murder overseas and supply material support to terrorists 
-         Iceland voted not to pay monies to failed banks 
-         There were riots in Greece
-         There were riots in Bangkok
-         An elderly, retired German couple kidnapped their financial advisor because of their loss of funds in the economic downturn
-         The FBI conducted raids on “militia” in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, arresting at least 7 people for gun charges, stating they were believed to be a “right wing Christian militia group”
April:
-         A doctor in Florida posted a sign outside of his office that told patients that voted for Obama to go elsewhere for their healthcare
-         A group calling itself the Guardians of the New Republic sent letters to 38 governors telling them to resign within 3 days or they would be removed
-         A video of students repeatedly being beaten by police was released
-         White Supremacists faced off with counter protestors in L.A.
-         50 police officers in West Palm Beach, Florida picketed the SunFest music event over the city’s decision to cut pay raises and benefits
-         Organized labor expected 10,000 protestors on Wall Street, while smaller demonstrations were scheduled against Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Bank of America
-         Hundreds of working class, uninsured people lined up at mobile clinics for free health, eye and dental care in Tennessee
-         BD’s deep-water drill broke spilling tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the Gulf
May:
-         A car bomb was found in Times Square in New York - the area was evacuated and the bomb was dismantled
-         The stock market took a 1000-point plunge, presumably due to “human error” 
-         The Governor of Arizona signed an immigration bill requiring police to ask for proof of residency papers, and another that banned ethnic studies classes, classes that promote overthrow of the U.S. Government, fosters resentment toward a particular race or class, or "advocates ethnic solidarity instead of treatment of pupils as individuals"
-         Los Angeles voted to institute economic sanctions and cut economic ties with Arizona after it implemented the immigration laws, while other California cities considered the same measures
-         Boston cut travel and contracts with Arizona.   Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Maryland and Ohio are considering legislation similar to the Arizona law.
-         Crowds gathered outside banker's houses in D.C. demanding that they stop lobbying against Wall Street reform.
-         Obama to deployed 1,200 troops to the U.S. Mexican border
June:
-         Café owner, John Langly, banned cops from his cafe saying that he “serves homeless, environmental and animal rights activists and having cops there who persecute such people doesn't seem right”
-         3,500 acres in Arizona shut off to Americans with warnings that the area is infiltrated by Mexican drug cartels and human traffickers
-         William Allen Kruse, charter boat captain, committed suicide after working for two weeks for BP cleaning up the oil spill.
August:
-         Arizona Sheriff makes a statement to the press that "Our Own Government Has Become Our Enemy”
-         Los Angeles Police Department raided a raw, organic foods market
-         The Justice Department threatened to sue a Arizona Sheriff for failure to cooperate with a civil rights investigation and for being out of compliance with federal law
-         Sheriff Tony DeMeo of Nye County, Nevada voiced opposition to the federal government, with respect to the 14th amendment of the Constitution and property rights 
-         30,000 people lined up to get Section 8 housing applications in Atlanta - riot police were called out and 62 people were injured. 
-         JP Morgan Chase building burned in Houston 
-         Crippled by the recession, Donald and Barbara Romano involved in murder/suicide - they are 1 couple in 5 murder suicides in Las Vegas this month
September:
-         Last month, it was reported that Philadelphia had established a force with the authority to look in people's garbage and write $50 tickets if they are throwing away anything recyclable - this month it was reported that public schools will issue $25 fines to parents for each day that a student misses school 
-         Ninth Circuit ruled that the police do not need a warrant to install a GPS unit on automobiles for tracking purposes if the property where the auto is located does not have a fence or the vehicle is not in the garage
-         Bell, California has been forced to pay $3,000,000 in property takes back to the residents for having paid $787,637 to the city manager, $376,288 to his assistant, and $457, 000 to the city police chief, all of whom resigned - the median income in Bell is $29,946. 
-         Jason Grodensky paid cash for his home in December, and Bank of America foreclosed on him in July. 
October:
-         Foreclosures in 49 states investigated in accusation of bank fraud
-         Despite the freezing temperatures, hundreds fought for a place in line in Marietta to apply for federal aid to help pay their heat and power bills this winter  
December:
-         The Imperial County, California, Board of Supervisors approved plans for a private, $100 million, 1,000-acre military and law enforcement training camp near the small rural border town of Ocotillo, California for a company called Wind Zero Group Inc.
 

It’s a mess out there, boys and girls.  Remember, nothing that I do or say is about creating, instigating or magnifying fear.  It is about promoting self-empowerment, self-awareness and choice.  Look around you, what do you see?
