Life WILL Find a Way… Stowaway Seeds Making their Way to the Antarctic

I have often wondered how a world grappling with Global Warming could survive the death of species that have lived in various climates that are changing so rapidly, they don’t have the opportunity to adapt or “migrate” to warmer or cooler climates suited to their survival.

Well, now I know.

Apparently seeds have been stowing away on the clothing and in the equipment of scientists and tourists for years as they visit the Antarctic.  Oddly, now that the Antarctic is warming and “hot spots” are popping up, these seeds are finding a new home in the warmer clime.  Iceland Poppy, Tall Fescue Velvet grass and Annual Winter Grass have appeared, and are doing well.

Many believe this will destroy the pristine and finely balanced ecosystem of the Antarctic, but I disagree.  It means there will be a new ecosystem made up of the old and the new.

We do not control the world, even though we tell ourselves we do.    We are just a small part of THE incredibly intense and life affirming global system.  And as we assign “goodness” or “badness” to what amounts to nothing more than “change,” and as we do all that we can to try to prevent the perceived “bad changes” from occurring, we ignore the truth that nature is it’s own driver, and even though we think very highly of our own musings, we don’t know how something like this will ultimately play out.

As far as I can tell, Nature does just fine all by itself and in spite of our “help.”
